RIP Mitch.  I just came across an email response the great, late comic sent me in 2000 (when I was trying my hand at standup.)

because of the way the world works,
a person staying true to themselves on the stage
will experience an extraordinary amount of resistance.
grow a thick skin and stay involved.
we need great comedy.
